Trek at Mountain Nyenpo Yutse in Amdo

  Highlights: covering 5369 m. holy mountain Nyenpo Yutse, Panda Base, beautiful Tibetan villages in Danba, Gyarong Tibetan, Ngolok nomades, Qiang minority,  
  Tibetan buddhism: Karma-Kagyuepa, Gelugpa, Nyingmapa, Jonangpa. Boen monastery Nangshig in Aba.  
  Nyenpo Yutse, with a elevation of 5369 m , the highest peak of Bayankara , located in Ngawa and Banma- the bordering areas of Qinghai and Sichuan . It is the holy mountain of Amdo Tibetan cherished by the local Tibetans in Ngolok. There are more than 160 big and small lakes scattering around the mountain which like jewelries decorating it. These dense vegetations here(forests, grasslands, and medical herbs) made it to be an ideal habitat for many rare animals such like wild ass, wild yaks, blue sheep, red deers and Asian black bears. More than 20 species of fish living in the lakes here.
Our trekking tour this time in east Tibet proving you an access to explore those places with few inhabitants. These places like Dzangtang, Banma, Ngawa were ruled by local lords because of the remote locations and historical matters. On the way you have chance to visit those Gayrong Tibetans and QIang people in Danba and Taoping. 
 
  Itinerary:  
 

Day01 Arrive in Chengdu( or Xining, the prgram will be very differant) (D)
Arrive in Chengdu , capital of province Sichuan , the home town of Panda . Picked up by the local guide at airport and transferred to hotel. 1N in 4*Yinhe Dynasty Hotel

 

Day02  Chengdu - Dujiangyan - Wolong ?Rilong (B/L/D)
In the morning leave for
Rilong. On the way visit Dujiangyan Irrigation System, which was built around 250 BC by Li Bin, a governor of Shu Prefecture in Qin State . The great project still works well today after more than two thousand years function, which not only puts an end of the water disaster to the local people but also makes Chengdu Plain -The land of abundance. While visiting the water conservation work, you may find that the methods of harnessing the river the ancient people used are so simple but useful. Then we'll cross the Wolong Giant Panda Natural Reserve, where about 50 giant pandas are bred in a semi-natural environment. After lunch at Wolong, cross the foggy Balang Mountain (4,523 meters) and pass by the Siguniang Shan Mountain (four-girls mountain, highest peak  6250 m ). 1N in 4*Jinkun Hotel

 

Day03 Rilong - Danba (B/L/D)

In the morning drive via Xiaojin to Danba (1900 meters). The local people are called Jiarong (Gyarong) Tibetans. It is said that they are the descendants of the people of the ancient Xixia Kingdom , who merged with the local people after they fled from Gansu and settled here. Danba has long been acclaimed as the Kingdom of Thousands of Ancient Blockhouses. Visit the ancient block towers in Suopo. They were made of clay and block and look fine from outside with solid thick walls. Time permitting; visit the Jiaju Tibetan Hamlet. Jiaju, 10 kilometers away from the county city, is one of the rare places in China that has preserved complete Tibetan style residences. More than one hundred buildings keep the same architectural style with a complete and unique character of Jiarong Tibetan residences. Under the blue sky, the Tibetan residences decorated in red, white and black are strewed at random but also in order from the bottom to the middle slope of the valley. 1N in 2*Danba Hotel

 

Day04 Danba ?Rangtang (B/L/D)

Drive to Rangtang (Dzamthang). Reach Sirin Kar Monastery, 30 km before arriving at Rangtang. Sirin Kar (si tin kar dgonpa) is an institution of the Karma-Kagyuepa order, having more than 300 monks under one incarnate lama's guidance. Late in the afternoon arrive in Rangtang. With an elevation of 3,285 meters above sea level and covering an area of 6,600 square kilometers, Rangtang County has a population of about 30,000. Of the total population, Tibetans accounts for 80 percent and the rest are Han people, Huis and Qiangs. In Tibetan Rangtang means the Treasure God's Flat Land . 2N at 2*Rangtang Hotel

 

Day05 Rangtang (B/L/D)

Visit Rangtang Si 60 kilometers away from the county seat, the biggest monastery of the Jonang Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Belonging to Dadanpingchuo Monastery in U area, it is composed of three monasteries: Quji, Zhebuji and Zangwa built separately in 1307, in 1367 and in the 17th century. Though being close to each other, the three small temples have their own scripture halls, sermon halls, practice halls, printing houses and monk quarters and carry out activities independently. Another program is Bangtuo, a monastery pf Nyingmapa Sect under the Provincial level protection. Originally built in Yuan Dynasty, the temple has preserved the stupas built in Ming and Qing dynasty. No. one stupa of the five ones in the temple is 32 meters high covering an area of 90.25 square meters. Another wonder of the temple is its stone carvings of scriptures, about 500,000 pages of Tibetan Buddhist sutra carved on flat stones. The endless grasslands and beautiful valleys indicate that we are just driving on the vast Northwest Grassland of Sichuan.

 

Day06 Rangtang -Banma (B/L/D)

Drive to Banma (Pema), about 12 km southeast of Pema county town, the historically oldest monastery of the whole Ngolok region is reached: Achonggya Gompa (Yaritang Si), the Ngolok's Jonangpa monastery with the longest history and one of the largest among them. Continue to drive to Cagri Gompa (Jiangritang Si), was only built in 1937, but due to its extraordinary features should be seen among the most remarkable sites in Ngolok. It is located southeast at the roadside about two to three kilometers after the bridge across Mar Chu river. This complex was constructed under the guidance of Khempo Ngaga and Baizha Lama of Kathog Monastery in Kham. 1N at simple Lotus Hotel

 

Day07 Banma - Shim Tso Lake (B/L/D)

After breakfast drive to Shim Tso Lake . On the way visit the Peyuel Darthang Ling (Baiyu Si). It is the fastest developing Nyingmapa monastery in the Ngolok grasslands. The history of the monastery dates back to 1857 when Gyatruel Lama of Peyuel Monastery in Kham, Pema Dongak Tendzin (1830-1891), came here for the first time to propagate the Buddhist Doctrine. Afterwards drive to visit the Longge Monastery, a subtemple belonging to Ragya Monastery. In the afternoon reach Shim Tso Lake , the start point for the trekking at holy mountain Nyenpo Yutse. Day08 Trekking Shim Tso - Larza Tso. Camping
Four days trekking start from Shim Tso via Larza Tso, Marze Tso and Mardong Tso Lake to Ngomu Tso trekking ended here. The trekking will go through the core areas of Nyenpo Yutse: canyon, alp meadow, mountain pass, glacier, prayer flags and the tents of nomads. The beautiful scenes, unique life style of the nomads, strong atmosphere of the religion tell us the true significance of the trekking.

Day09 Trekking Larza Tso - Marze Tso. Camping (B/L/D)

Day10 Trekking Marze Tso - Mardong Tso. Camping (B/L/D)

Day11 Trekking Mardong Tso - Ngomu Tso. Camping (B/L/D)

 

Day12 Ngomu Tso - Cigdril -Aba (B/L/D)

Say goodbye to the trekking crew and the pack-yaks drive via Cigdril (Jiuzhi) to Aba (Ngawa). Like Banma and Jiuzhi Aba is also hometown of Ngolok people. Aba means people coming from Ngari in Tibetan. In this area all the sects of Tibetan Buddhism remain and exist in harmony. The warlike behaviour and the fact that almost extinct religious traditions--such as Boen and Jonangpa--had taken refuge in the greater Ngawa area, suggest reasons for an enduring religious diversity. The history of southeastern Amdo, which is quite different from both central Tibet and central Amdo, is not very well known so far. 2N at 2*Jingu Hotel

 

Day13 Aba (B/L/D)

In the morning visit Kirti Monastery (Ge'erdeng Si) of Gelug Sect. Originally built in 1870, it has become the biggest monasteries in Kham-Amdo region of Sichuan after more than 100 years of development. Covering an area of 1.8 square kilometers, this monastery is well famed for its seven-storey white pagoda, 39 meters high with a square base 25 meters long each side. After that visit Nangyi Monastery, located at a hillside to the northeast of the Aba County . Nangyi Monastery is one of the biggest Bon monastery in China and has a history of about 900 years after it was built in 1107. The monastery is very strong in economy and the temple halls are built and decorated magnificently. Besides, its differences from Buddhism in religious rituals and taste of art have a great appeal to people. In the afternoon visit Aba Nunnery. Located at the Mami Mountain of Siwa Town six kilometers to the west of the county seat, the nunnery of Gelug Sect is the biggest one of its kind in Amdo-Kham regions. It was built in 1894 and has a history of more than 100 years.

 

Day14 Aba - Miyaluo - Gu'ergou (B/L/D)

Drive via Miyaluo to Gu'ergou. In the hotel in Gu'ergou you willl enjoy bath in hot spring. 1N at 3*Wenquan Villa Hotel

 

Day15 Miyaluo --Taoping - Chengdu (B/L/D)

In the morning leave for Chengdu . On the way visit Taoping Qiang People's Stocked Village , 16 kilometers far away from Lixian County . The ancient Taoping Village has a great appeal for the numerous experts and tourists with its odd and wonderful fortress buildings. The bottom parts of these tower-shaped buildings are in width and length, and then upon them the main bodies become contracted storey by storey, which makes the building operated by means of centripetal force and become firm. These blockhouses are over ten floors and can be regarded as the skyscrapers of the old times. Built by lying stones, the outside edges of every stone are sharp while every side of the tower looks flat and straight. Though they have had experienced as long as one thousand years, they do not collapse and keep steady. That is why people acclaim them as the peak of perfection among the same kinds of buildings. Day16 Chengdu - Home (B)

Free until transfer to airport, fly back home.
